Paradise Lost stars Benicio Del Toro as the infamous Columbian crime figure Pablo Escobar. But this isn’t your run-of-the-mill crime drama. In fact, it’s actually a romantic thriller. The film also stars Josh Hutcherson, who plays Nick, a surfer who thinks all his dreams have come true when he goes to visit his brother in Columbia. Against an idyllic backdrop of blue lagoons and white beaches, he falls madly in love with a beautiful Colombian girl called Maria. It all seems perfect until he meets her uncle, one Pablo Escobar.
Benicio Del Toro has been a disappointment of late. He’s starred in the underwhelming films The Wolfman and Savages, most recently, but he may just be turning things around. His upcoming acting slate features major roles in Paul Thomas Anderson‘s Inherent Vice and James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy, in addition to Paradise Lost.
Josh Hutcherson, of course, can be seen in the upcoming Hunger Games sequel, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
