Tom Hardy is quickly becoming a house-hold name. After making a name for himself in Nicolas Winding Refn‘s 2008 film Bronson, he had roles in the Christopher Nolan-blockbusters Inception and The Dark Knight Rises, with great roles in films like Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Warrior, and Lawless sandwiched in between. Hardy is now in talks to star in The Outsider, Black List script written by Andrew Baldwin, tells the story of an American G.I. and former prisoner of war who rises in the murky world of the Yakuza in post-World War II Japan. Not only that, but producers are getting critically acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike to direct.
Miike, who’s new to Hollywood filmmaking, is best known for his films Ichi the Killer, 13 Assassins and Audition.
Hardy will next appear in the franchise reboot Mad Max: Fury Road, the Dennis Lehane-scripted Animal Rescue, and Child 44 directed by Safe House helmer Daniel Espinosa.
Hardy is also currently circling the project Rocketman, in which he’d play legendary musician Elton John.
Production on The Outsider, barring any major setbacks, will begin in early 2014 in Japan.
