Forest Whitaker in The ButlerThe Butler, on paper, seems like a shoe-in contender for this upcoming Oscar season. But what we’re getting from the trailer, I don’t see anything awards-worthy. The Butler is directed by Lee Daniels (Precious) with the screenplay from Danny Strong (Recount, Game Change) based on a Washington Post report by Wil Haygood. The film stars Forest Whitaker as Eugene Allen, the White House butler whose career started with Harry Truman in 1952 and ended in 1986 with Ronald Reagan. The Butler has cameos out the wazoo. Featuring Oprah Winfrey, Terrence Howard, Alex Pettyfer, David Oyelowo, Alan Rickman, Jane Fonda, James Marsden, John Cusack, Minka Kelly, Cuba Gooding Jr., Nelsan Ellis, Liev Schreiber, Vanessa Redgrave, Melissa Leo, and Robin Williams. The film hits theaters October 18, 2013. Check out the trailer below.
