Christopher McQuarrie first made a name for himself when he won the Oscar for his screenplay for The Usual Suspects. Since, he’s had a few good projects but has had a bit of a career resurgence. He recently direct Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher, and has been rumored to be on a very short list of directors for Mission: Impossible 5, which Cruise has officially signed on for. Now Warner Bros. is giving McQuarrie a chance to write and direct Ice Station Zebra.
The project is a remake of the 1968 film starring Rock Hudson, Ernest Borgnine, Patrick McGoohan, and Jim Brown. Based on the novel by Alistair McLean, Ice Station Zebra centers on an American Naval submarine team that races Russians to retrieve sensitive photographic material in the arctic. But soon, the crew discovers that there is a traitor in their ranks trying to sabotage the entire mission.
