Olympus Has Fallen was the first “Die Hard in the White House” movie to hit theaters this year. It did so last weekend and fared pretty well at the box-office, but failed miserably with critics. White House Down should do better all around. With it being a film from director Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012) the film’s posters represent the calm before the storm.
I have higher hopes for White House Down. It’s certainly not because of Emmerich himself, but because screenwriter James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man). Both films feature the same basic thematic premise, but Vanderbilt’s take has the source of the threat originate from a homegrown paramilitary group led by Stenz — played by Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty). When Stenz’s group invades the White House, Washington police office John Cale (Channing Tatum), on a tour with his daughter, springs into action in order to save his family and protect the President (Jamie Foxx).
White House Down hits theaters July 28, 2013. Check out the posters below.
