10. The Help
I completely fell in love with little Mae Mobley, played by twins Emma and Eleanor Henry. It’s always impressive to see little kids act so well, and she is phenomenal in honestly every scene she’s in – I suppose the biggest one being when she has to say goodbye to Viola Davis’ character. This little girl broke the hearts of everyone watching.
9. Super 8
Elle Fanning doesn’t have to stretch too far out of her comfort zone as Alice Dainard, a mature young girl with good sense – except when she transforms into a zombie. She’s a damn convincing zombie.
8. The Descendants
It’s George Clooney’s subtle expressions and reactions that make him so likable as Matt King. The awkward conversations with his daughters are the best, especially when he tells his daughter that her generation has no respect for their elders, but he sort of asks it like a question. She doesn’t respond and the scene ends.
7. Midnight in Paris
I never thought of Ernest Hemingway as being a funny guy, but Corey Stoll had me reeling with his dry, long-winded, narrative style of speaking. He was delightful.
6. Warrior
Nick Nolte’s Paddy Conlon steals the movie with his drunk scene. He’s been sober until this point, and it’s filled with so many heart-wrenching emotions when Tom Hardy lies with him in the bed.
5. Win Win
Can someone please give Bobby Cannavale a leading role? He is hysterical and earnest at the same time as Terry Delfino. I love the scene at his house with Paul Giamatti when the two get jacked watching a youtube video of Kyle wrestling.
4. Drive
Ryan Gosling is king – especially when he passionately kisses the girl right before killing a man with his bare hands.
3. The Artist
Jean Dujardin lights up the screen with his smile as George Valentin, filling me with happiness the most in the final dance number. It was the coolest thing to finally hear him speak two words.
2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II
Severus Snape has been my favorite character for so long and finally proves to be the good guy upon his death. The scene is gripping and emotional and definitely the biggest revelation in the entire series. Alan Rickman is the man.
1. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Lisbeth Salander is one bad-ass character and Rooney Mara kicks the shit out of the role. I love her nonchalance to stroll out of the room while Mikael Blomkvist is still talking, insisting she take the notes with her. She reluctantly takes them, and leaves them on the table on her way out.
