He’s Just Not That Into You is a relationship movie. It involves a group of people who live in Baltimore, Maryland and are going through the trials and tribulations of dating and marriage. We get scenarios of a desperate girl on the dating scene, a troubled marriage, the Just Friends category, the ladies man who knows all the tips, and the long relationship without engagement. In fact there’s so much going on that it hurts the character development of some of the main actors. It’s a mish mosh of everything. It’s not hard to follow but it may be too much to take for one movie viewing.

To say it has an ensemble cast is an understatement. It is made up of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Aniston who have been together for seven years but haven’t even gotten engaged yet. Kevin Connolly and Scarlett Johansson are former lovers who now are in the dreaded “just friends” category. Ginnifer Goodwin gets attached to every man she talks to but gets some tips from the ultimate dater Justin Long. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Connelly are married but are having some problems. Drew Barrymore is having trouble getting real dates and instead has been using every form of technology to pick up guys. That is a lot of stuff going on for one movie. Each one could have been a crappy mini movie all on its own but this film interconnects the stories all together for one big date movie.

Sometimes you can’t enjoy a movie if you don’t enjoy the main character. Ginnifer Goodwin probably has the most screen time in this film and I was annoyed with her at every turn. She took the desperate stalker girl to an over exaggerated maximum. Anything she said or did was making me think how much I hated her. Scarlett Johansson and Bradley Cooper’s story is probably the most interesting. Johansson plays the flirtatious whore-ish character great. And she’s not so bad on the eyes either. The rest of the stories were your typical romantic comedy stuff. Guy likes Girl or Girl likes Guy and everything that comes along with the opposite one not feeling the same way. Hence the title, He’s Just Not That Into You. Most of the outcomes were predictable but there were a few surprising endings to the tales. And it’s always refreshing to guess wrong. There’s nothing I hate more than a totally predictable romantic comedy. And that’s how almost all of them are. But in the end, I just wasn’t that into this movie. ZING!

I recently covered a girls high school basketball team that has a 54-game losing streak. They scored 17 points for the game and lost by over 40. I mention that, because while i enjoy my job, some days you just know you wish you could be watching something else. I can’t help but think that the same thought crossed your mind over the two hours of this movie.
