Kevin Spacey, Se7en (1995)
Best Actor in a Supporting Role:
One of the greatest supporting performances of all-time. Let me say that again…one of the greatest supporting performances of all-time. And you only see him for the last 20 minutes of the film…which, ‘oh by the way,’ are arguably the best ending 20 minutes in recent history. Kevin Spacey portrays insanity to perfection. He plays John Doe, the psychotic serial killer who through all of the strings and murderous attributes, has a set of principles. Doe, believes this world is cruel and senseless and to get anyone’s attention, “you can’t just tap them on the shoulder. You have to hit them with a sledge hammer.” John Doe truly hates the people he witnesses as sinners, and therefore turns each sin against the sinner in a series of gruesome murders based on the seven deadly sins.
“Long is the way and hard, that out
of Hell leads up to the light.”
