Satellite Award Nominees

The International Press Academy has just announced the 13th annual Satellite Award nominees.  Although they have no say in what might or might not get nominated for an Oscar, the IPA chose not to recognize There Will Be Blood or Atonement for Best Motion Picture, Drama, nor did it recognize George Clooney for Best Actor for Michael Clayton.  It Didn’t nominate Letters from Iwo Jima in 2006 either.  These are the first Awards to stir the Oscar pot and really ask the question, What will be nominated for an Oscar?  Does it mean that since The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Dark Knight or The Wrestler wont be nominated for Best Picture come Oscar time?  No.  It means nothing.  Benjamin Button has yet to be in wide release format and few critics have seen it.  However, the Satellite Awards did pick the last two Oscar winners for Best Picture.  Last year they picked No Country For Old Men, and the The Departed the year before.
