The X-Files was an Emmy award winning television series created by Chris Carter and starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. They explored unsolved cases that normally dealt with some kind of paranormal activity. Mulder was the one that believes in the supernatural while Scully was more grounded in reality looking for a reasonable explanation for the odd cases. The show ran from 1993 until 2002. In 1998 they made a feature film entitled The X-Files: Fight The Future that dealt with extraterrestrials and abduction, which was a major theme of the television series. Now, 6 years after the series came to an end, Chris Carter resurrects it into a new movie, The X-Files: I Want To Believe. Aside from the awful title, the movie was pretty good…. If you’re an X-Files fan.
I have a nostalgic connection to The X-Files. When it was big in the mid to late 90s, my dad and my brother would join me every Sunday night in front of the boob tube for new episodes. Remember the Cancer Man… excuse me, I meant The Cigarette Smoking man? Remember Duane Barry? Or the Chupacabra? Well you don’t need to know any of them to see this new movie. Its more of a serial killer type thriller than a supernatural based movie. Scully is now working as a children’s physician caring for kids with serious illnesses. Mulder is off in seclusion with a badass beard. Young FBI agents played by Amanda Peet and Xzibit turn to Scully because of her connection to Mulder. They need him on a case where a psychic priest is having visions of an abductor who has stalked and kidnapped another agent.
Mulder’s dry humor is still there. Scully still doesn’t believe… but she wants to. Get it? Its basically like a long episode. There’s nothing wrong with that for me but I can see why people wouldn’t be super pumped to see this flick. There’s a lot of edge of your seat action and it has a decent story. Its actually pretty sick Chubbs. It deals a lot in human experiments that make you cringe a bit. Definitely a step away from what the show was famous for probably in order to attract some non-show fans. There’s only a few scenes where you might need to have a little X-Files history lesson.
So would I recommend this new X-Files movie to a non-fan? It’s a possibility.
But if you were ever a hardcore fan like myself, then you cant help but have a big smile on your face when that opening music hits. But I Want To Believe this is the real end of the The X-Files.

Coming from a fanboy… still not a made movie, but not bad enough to get whacked.
